Chapter 7
The Ultimate Proof
In a world where vested interests
have the majority of people resting their hopes on wonder remedies and miracle
cures, here, at last, is a book that is dedicated to the truth about disease
and how to overcome it..
How do we know that this is the truth?
Simply because we have subjected every claim that
is made herein to the very highest form of scientific proof - that being
real-life experience - not just my own real-life experience, but that of
thousands of individuals.
As mentioned in my
greeting, my adventure with health began in
1977 when I was driven by a number of circumstances, and no small amount of
suffering, to study into the matter of disease - with special emphasis on the
nature of disease, the cause of disease, and the cure of disease.
Whatever I learnt, I tried to
apply to my own life. In order to follow my convictions I needed a supply of
natural foods, and so I purchased a tiny laboratory-size flour mill. On a weekly
basis my kids would mill flour in the laundry and mom would prepare us the most
delicious whole grain bread, pancakes, cookies, waffles and porridges. Little
did we realize at the time that these humble beginnings would one day develop
into our present-day family business - the
Nature's Choice Health Food
Company.
It was some time around 1980 when the pieces of
the puzzle really started falling into place and, to cut a long story short, I
achieved a state of physical health and mental clarity that absolutely amazed
me. It seemed obvious to me that the program I was following was just the
program that our sick world was in need of - but I needed to prove the point.
And so it was, in 1983, that I invited Katherine Dodd to join us from the United
States. Katherine is not only a highly trained nurse in the orthodox school of
medicine, but she has had many years of hands-on experience supervising the
treatment center of one of the world's finest healing sanitariums (in the USA).
Katherine has one of those remarkable brains that never forgets anything - and a
remarkable heart that never forgets anyone.
Together with a number of
colleagues who shared our interest, we started conducting "Nature's Way" health
clinics throughout South Africa. These clinics were conducted under the auspices
of The Natural Health Foundation from 1983 to 1992.
The average clinic usually
spanned a period of seven to ten days. During this time delegates lived on
campus, their meals were specially prepared by my good wife and her team and, as
far as time permitted in-between lectures, their lifestyle accorded with the
Nature's Way principles that are explained later in the book. The number of delegates who attended these clinics
usually ranged from 40 to 150 per session. These were people from all walks of
life and from all professions - including teachers, nurses and even a few
medical practitioners.
After just three days at the
clinic, we could detect a radiant glow on the faces of the delegates -
accompanied by a deep-seated sense of happiness, enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Time and again delegates recovered from long-standing ailments while still at
the clinic. Some who could not walk much more than a few steps on the first day
of the clinic were walking briskly for three to five kilometers per day within
but a few days. Many with hypertension found that their blood pressure had
normalized by the end of the clinic. Skin ailments cleared up and many even
reported that their hair was far more manageable. A number of people who had
suffered with headaches for years, and who had relied heavily on headache pills,
were astounded when their headaches disappeared. Some even reported that their
eyesight improved.
After the clinics, those who
incorporated into their lifestyle and diet the
principles they had been taught soon recovered from all manner of illness -
and here we are speaking about ailments that range from gout to heart problems,
from depression to constant colds, from migraine to low blood sugar. Even the
more healthy individuals who came to the clinic, and who followed the program
thereafter, soon achieved a level of vitality that they had never experienced
before.
What is most amazing about these
results is that they came about only because delegates were following a more
healthy lifestyle and because they were enjoying a more natural and a more
nourishing diet. Besides a natural laxative and/or bowel flush for the first few
days, and daily steam baths or saunas at the clinics conducted in the earlier
years, no special medication or therapy was prescribed - other than the
medication that some patients might have been taking prior to the clinic.
Since our small beginnings, we have published a number of books, conducted
countless seminars, given talks on radio, shared the "Nature's Way" programme
with thousands of people, and had the special privilege of supplying
Nature's Choice health foods to the
people of our country and our neighboring states via over 700 retail outlets. In
a nutshell, the results have been nothing less than thrilling - so much so that
we now are more motivated than ever to share the Nature's Way programme with the
world.
But what, you may ask, is the key
to the success of this program? What is the kernel truth to which we can ascribe
such amazing results? Simply this . . .
Disease never comes without a cause. If you are ill, and you remove
the cause by substituting the good for the bad in your lifestyle and diet, you
will usually get well. It's as simple as that.
No, this is not some strange new
truth. This, in fact, is the underlying principle that has driven the Nature Cure
philosophy since the time of Hippocrates, this is the core truth that for
centuries has led to the success of healing sanitariums throughout the world,
this is the most effective remedy of all remedies, this is the remedy that can
often eliminate the need for all other remedies.
With our many years of
experience, we have absolutely no doubt that the above principle is sound - for
it works time after time. The problem being, of course, that while many of us
will readily accept that "disease never comes without a cause," far too many of
us have been schooled into believing that the primary causes of disease today
are germs and viruses, hereditary factors, genetic
defects and/or an accident that took place many years ago, etcetera - all of
which allow us to put the blame for our ailment on factors that are beyond our
control.
In the great majority of cases,
however, disease is caused by a faulty lifestyle and diet, and the main culprits
are usually neatly tucked away in our kitchen cupboards in the form of
refined white sugar, hydrogenated fats
(margarine and common cooking oils - and almost every processed product
containing fat), preserved food, over-processed
foods,
white bread, white rice, white flour and any number
of denatured food products.
These unnatural foods fail to
adequately nourish the system, they fill the body with toxic impurities, they
create imbalances in body chemistry, they rob the body of its vitality, they
weaken the immune defenses, and in so doing they lay out the red carpet for germ
and/or virus infection and many other ailments.
Please note - first there is the
faulty lifestyle and diet, and only then come the germs and/or the viruses. So
while germs and viruses may be a causative factor in the onset of disease, they
are not the primary cause of disease.
[You may click on the following

Which brings us to our next
"huge" principle, one that is closely associated with the principle just
discussed.
You will never get well while
you continue to do whatever it is that is making you ill.
Is this principle always taken into account by medical practitioners today? In
some cases, Yes! In the great majority of cases, No! Instead, our hope for
recovery is usually directed at a pill or a potion, . . . little or no thought
is given to the fact that it was our unnatural diet and lifestyle that filled
the system with toxins, and that weakened our immune system, and that thus
created a perfect "soil" for germs to thrive in, and a "welcome home" sign for
viruses, little or no consideration is given to the functioning of the bowels,
little or no attention is paid to body chemistry, little or no effort is made to
determine the toxicity of the system, little or no enquiry is made in regard to
our diet and lifestyle, and little or no recommendations are forthcoming as
regards our future living habits.
And thus it is that we become "lifelong patients" - sincerely hoping for
recovery while continuing with the very lifestyle and dietary habits that made us ill
in the first place - and all the while sincerely believing that medicine
will do for us that which we alone can do for ourselves by bringing our
lifestyle and diet back into harmony with natural law.
So, my dear friend, when you or a
loved one fall ill, it's easy to blame germs and viruses (nature gone wrong), or
hereditary factors (our parents), or genetic defects (God), or a fall during
infancy (a doctor, nurse or nanny), but we should always first look back on
our
diet over the past few days (rich sugary puddings, sugary sweets and drinks,
white flour products, junk foods, food preservatives, etc) and our lifestyle (no
exercise, no rest, no sunlight, sleeping with windows closed, overwork,
over-exercising). In the great majority of cases we will find a reason to blame
ourselves - which is not a bad thing - for only by so doing will we be able to
make better lifestyle and dietary choices in future.
It is with absolute confidence, and with a terrible sense of urgency, therefore,
that I present to you the remainder of this book. May I strongly suggest that you
read the next five chapters in succession.
Proceed To
Chapter 8: The next two
chapters constitute the heart of this book. They reveal why we had such
overwhelming success at our clinics, and they have changed the way many people
think about disease. May I humbly suggest that you read these two chapters in
the early morning on an empty stomach.
